How to match an airbag or seatbelt correctly
Airbags, pretensioners and seatbelts are safety-critical. Similar appearance is not proof of compatibility, and installation should be handled by a suitably qualified technician.
Identify the exact position
- Driver, passenger, knee, seat or curtain airbag
- Front or rear row
- LH or RH side
- Buckle, retractor or complete belt assembly
- Pretensioner fitted or not fitted
Match the identification
- Exact manufacturer part number
- Connector shape, colour and pin count
- Mounting bracket and bolt locations
- Vehicle VIN, build date and trim specification
- Recall status and donor-vehicle damage history
Do not use
Do not use a deployed or visibly damaged component. Queensland guidance also restricts certain airbags from statutory write-offs, including airbags that are damaged or deployed, affected by water, smoke or fire, or recalled.
Installation and diagnosis
Disconnecting a battery does not make every SRS procedure safe. Follow manufacturer repair information. A warning light must be diagnosed; do not fit resistors or bypass devices to hide a fault.
